Noida: The investigation into the death of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta in Noida has reached a critical stage. Following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Noida Authority has submitted a detailed list of 20 officials to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing the incident.
Incident Background:
The incident occurred late at night on 16 January at an under-construction building in Sector-150 of Noida, owned by a local builder. Public outrage over the tragedy and extensive media coverage prompted the Chief Minister to order a thorough investigation and constitute a Special Investigation Team to ensure accountability.
List of Officials Submitted to SIT:
In compliance with SIT directives, the Noida Authority has provided a comprehensive list of officers and staff who were posted in the vicinity of the site over the past two to three years. The list includes Junior Engineers, Assistant Project Engineers (APEs), and other technical personnel, totaling around 20 names. The SIT specifically requested details of all officials responsible for supervision and monitoring at the site to ascertain lapses at various levels.
Investigation to Cover Officials’ Roles:
The SIT has clarified that the investigation will cover not only currently serving officials but also those who were previously posted in the area. The team is closely examining potential lapses in site safety, waterlogging management, and overall monitoring of the construction site.
Significance of the List:
The list submitted by the Noida Authority is considered crucial in determining which officials may have been negligent in discharging their duties. Based on its findings, the SIT may recommend suspensions, departmental action, or other punitive measures against those found responsible.
Report to CM Yogi Adityanath:
The SIT will base its final report on the names of these 20 officials and submit it to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. While this list pertains solely to the Noida Authority, separate reports from the police and district administration are expected to include additional names. Early indications from the CM’s office suggest strict action is likely once the report is finalized.
Public Outrage and Local Concerns:
Since Yuvraj Mehta’s death, the role of the Noida Police, district administration, and the Authority has come under scrutiny. The victim’s family hopes this investigation will not be limited to paperwork and that strict action will be taken against those responsible. Local residents, who often see such cases delayed or shelved, are hopeful that direct oversight by the Chief Minister will ensure accountability and timely action.
