Noida, February 2, 2026: In a strict action soon after taking charge, the newly appointed CEO of Noida Authority, Krishna Karunesh, has directed a hefty fine of ₹73.4 lakh on Amrapali Sapphire Society for failing to operate its Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in compliance with environmental norms.
An unannounced inspection conducted by the Authority’s Environment Cell revealed that untreated sewage from the society in Sector-45, falling under Sector-39 police jurisdiction, was being discharged directly into drains. The STP was found non-functional and poorly maintained, emitting foul odors and causing environmental pollution.
“The society’s repeated negligence in operating the STP violates environmental laws, including the Water Act 1974, Air Act 1981, and Solid Waste Management Rules of 2000 and 2016,” stated a senior official from the Noida Authority. Following the inspection on January 31, a formal letter has been sent to the Regional Officer of the Pollution Control Board for recovery of the fine and to initiate legal action. A complaint has also been lodged with Sector-39 police to register an FIR.
Amrapali Sapphire Society comprises 1,308 flats, with around 1,000 currently occupied. This action follows similar measures taken recently by the Greater Noida Authority, where multiple societies were penalized for failing to maintain functional STPs.
The Noida Authority emphasized that such enforcement measures are necessary to uphold environmental laws and ensure sustainable urban living, signaling stricter scrutiny of all group housing societies in the region.
