“No Road, No Vote”: Residents of Rajnagar Extension in Ghaziabad Protest Poor Infrastructure

Ghaziabad, UP – Residents of Rajnagar Extension in Ghaziabad have taken a bold stand against years of neglect, highlighting the deteriorating condition of roads in the area. Thousands of families, frustrated with inaction by authorities, have put up large banners across society gates declaring: “No facilities, no tax; no road, no vote.”

Societies including Nilaya Green, Sanchar Residency, and Meadow Vista, among others along Hum Tum Road, have joined the protest. Local resident Murarilal Sharma said, “The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) developed Rajnagar Extension but then turned a blind eye to providing basic amenities. Builders sold flats by showing only a bright picture, forcing us to live a dramatic and challenging life.”

Residents claim they have been demanding road construction for years, but protests and sit-ins had no effect on officials or elected representatives. As a result, they decided to take this direct action.

Protest Gains Momentum Across Rajnagar Extension

What started as a localized protest on Hum Tum Road is gradually spreading across the entire Rajnagar Extension. Citizens are united in their message: without essential infrastructure like roads, they will withhold their votes.

Political factors add to the discontent. Current MLA Sunil Sharma is a cabinet minister in the UP government, while previous ministers, including Atul Garg and General Vicky Singh, have represented the area. Despite this, the roads remain in poor condition, fueling resentment among residents.

Challenge to the ‘Triple Engine’ Government

The residents’ firm stance poses a serious challenge for the BJP’s “triple-engine” government in Ghaziabad. Amid promises of development, the banners send a clear message: unless road construction begins, no votes will be cast, and politicians will not be welcomed in society premises.

Manjeet Negi, a resident of Nilaya Greens, remarked, “This movement is no longer just about a road. It has become a fight for the rights of the entire community.”
