In a major relief for LPG consumers and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the government has made the biometric e-KYC process simpler, faster, and completely free. Consumers can now complete their LPG subsidy KYC from home using a smartphone, eliminating the need to visit gas agencies or service centers.
Under the new system, face authentication–based Aadhaar e-KYC has been enabled, allowing beneficiaries to verify their identity digitally within minutes. This move aims to ensure uninterrupted LPG subsidy benefits while enhancing transparency and preventing misuse.
Complete KYC on Mobile, No Agency Visit Required
According to official guidelines, LPG consumers can initiate the e-KYC process online by visiting the designated portal or by scanning the QR code provided by their oil marketing company (OMC). Consumers are required to download their respective OMC’s official mobile app, along with the Aadhaar Face RD (Face Recognition) App on their smartphone.
Once logged in, users must follow the on-screen instructions, enter basic details, and complete biometric verification through face scan, which securely matches Aadhaar-linked information.
Digital, Secure, and Hassle-Free Process
The entire e-KYC procedure is fully digital and secure, significantly reducing the chances of fraud or identity misuse. Officials say the new system has been designed to make compliance easy, especially for rural consumers and women beneficiaries under the Ujjwala scheme.
KYC Mandatory to Receive Subsidy
For PMUY beneficiaries, biometric e-KYC has been made mandatory every financial year. Completion of e-KYC is essential to receive the ₹300 targeted subsidy, particularly on the 8th and 9th LPG cylinder refills.
Authorities have warned that failure to complete e-KYC within the stipulated time may lead to delay or suspension of subsidy benefits.
Government Push for Transparency
The simplified e-KYC initiative reflects the government’s push towards Digital India, ensuring that welfare benefits reach genuine beneficiaries directly and efficiently.
LPG consumers and Ujjwala beneficiaries are advised to complete their e-KYC at the earliest to avoid disruption in subsidy payments.
