Nitish Kumar Directs Officials to Start ‘Ganga Aarti’ at Digha Ghat in Patna

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday directed officials of the Tourism Department, Patna District Administration, and the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to make complete arrangements for conducting Ganga Aarti at the Digha Pati Pul Ghat, located on the western bank of the Ganga River.

The Chief Minister issued the instructions during his inspection visit to the ghat near the JP Setu (Jai Prakash Setu), shortly after the Assembly proceedings were adjourned.

Nitish Kumar emphasized that, like the popular Ganga Aarti held at Gandhi Ghat, a similar spiritual and cultural event should be started at Digha to enhance tourism and provide visitors with a meaningful experience.

Digha Pati Pul Ghat Being Developed as a Tourist Destination

The Digha Pati Pul Ghat has been witnessing a large number of visitors daily, and the state government is now working to develop it into a major tourist spot.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the ghat is being developed under an integrated tourism development plan, keeping in mind the growing footfall of tourists and local residents.

Chief Minister Orders Better Facilities for Visitors

During the inspection, Nitish Kumar instructed officials to improve the surroundings and create a clean and attractive environment for tourists.

He directed that:

  • Plantation work should be carried out around the Digha tourist ghat
  • The existing ghat should be converted into a permanent cemented ghat
  • Proper infrastructure should be arranged for holding daily Ganga Aarti
  • Basic tourist facilities should be ensured for visitors

The Chief Minister stated that since a large number of tourists visit the place, they would be happy to participate in Ganga Aarti, which would also promote religious tourism in Patna.

Inspection of Six-Lane Ganga Bridge Project

Apart from the ghat inspection, Nitish Kumar also reviewed the construction site of the six-lane Ganga bridge being built parallel to JP Setu.

He instructed the concerned officials to ensure that the bridge construction is completed on time, as the project is expected to significantly improve connectivity between North Bihar and South Bihar.
