Nitin Gadkari Approves New Bypasses for Jaunpur and Azamgarh to Ease City Traffic

Lucknow: Residents of Jaunpur and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh have a reason to cheer as the central government has approved new bypass projects for both cities, aimed at reducing congestion and improving regional connectivity.

Jaunpur Western Bypass
The 12.2 km, 4-lane Western Bypass in Jaunpur has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹944.19 crore. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari shared the update on his X handle, highlighting that the project will complete a missing link in Jaunpur’s regional road network.

The bypass will connect National Highway 731 on the west and National Highway 135A on the north, creating uninterrupted connectivity. It will also integrate with the existing NH-31 bypass and other national highways (NH-31, NH-135A, NH-128A, NH-731), significantly improving regional traffic flow and reducing congestion within Jaunpur city.

Azamgarh South-East Bypass
Similarly, a 15 km, 4-lane South-East Bypass has been approved for Azamgarh at a cost of ₹1,279.13 crore. The project includes one flyover, two interchanges, service roads, and slip roads on both sides. This bypass will form a ring road, completing a crucial link in Azamgarh’s regional network. It will connect NH-28 on the west with NH-128B and the Purvanchal Expressway on the east, ensuring seamless traffic movement.

Both bypasses are expected to greatly improve regional traffic circulation, ease city congestion, and enhance connectivity between major highways in the region.
