Kanpur: In a major boost to Kanpur’s infrastructure, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has approved the construction of a four-lane elevated corridor from Ramadevi to Gol Chauraha on the old National Highway-91. The ambitious project, estimated at ₹988.30 crore, aims to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety in the city.
The 10.16-kilometer elevated corridor will pass over 16 railway crossings, which currently cause significant traffic snarls. By allowing uninterrupted traffic flow over these busy urban junctions, the corridor is expected to considerably reduce congestion on NH-91, shortening travel time and enhancing road safety within Kanpur’s urban areas.
Expressing gratitude, Kanpur MP Ramesh Avsthi thanked Minister Gadkari for approving the project. On his X handle, he wrote, “Honorable Minister Gadkari has sanctioned the construction of a four-lane elevated corridor from Ramadevi to Gol Chauraha on National Highway-91, at my request. On behalf of all residents of Kanpur, I extend heartfelt thanks. Your visionary and welfare-oriented approach continues to guide the development of our city. We are confident that under your guidance, Kanpur will continue its journey towards progress.”
In another post, Avsthi added, “The approval of ₹988.30 crore for the construction of this elevated corridor marks a historic and forward-looking step for Kanpur’s overall development. It will strengthen the city’s traffic management, save valuable time, and accelerate economic activities. This decision will undoubtedly lay a strong foundation for Kanpur’s bright future.”
The elevated corridor is expected to transform commuting in Kanpur, offering smoother travel and contributing significantly to the city’s infrastructure modernization.
