In a major crackdown on an illegal arms and ammunition trafficking network, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted coordinated raids across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana on Thursday morning. The operation, which began at 4 AM, covered 22 locations, including 15 sites in UP alone.
Raids Linked to Seizure of 3,700 Cartridges in June 2025
The NIA’s action is connected to the June 2025 recovery of 3,700 cartridges from a vehicle intercepted in Kaimur district, Bihar. The consignment was allegedly being transported from Kanpur to Nalanda. Two individuals were arrested at that time, one of whom was a former employee of a Kanpur-based businessman. His interrogation revealed critical details about the larger trafficking network.
Massive Operation in Auraiya and Kanpur Dehat
A convoy of nearly 20 vehicles accompanied NIA teams as they launched simultaneous raids at 13 locations in Auraiya and two in Kanpur Dehat.
The primary target is said to be businessman Kamal Kant Verma, whose premises were searched extensively. The raided sites included:
- His residence
- A petrol pump
- Shops in the local jewellery market
- A gun house
- Establishments belonging to his brothers and associates
Security was tightened during the operation, with police sealing the entire locality. The sudden deployment of heavy police forces caused panic among residents.
Electronic Devices, Ledgers Seized; No Large Arms Stock Recovered Yet
While no major stockpile of weapons or cartridges has been recovered so far, the NIA seized:
- Multiple digital devices
- Financial documents and ledgers
- Various important papers linked to suspected dealings
Auraiya SP Abhishek Bharti confirmed that the NIA is conducting a detailed search and that local police have been deployed to support the agency as required.
