New Twist in Patna NEET Student Death Case: Family Alleges Illness Was Concealed, SIT Investigates

Patna: The mysterious death of a NEET student residing at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna has taken a new turn. The student’s family has alleged that doctors concealed the actual illness during treatment and later claimed her death was due to a drug overdose. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is now probing the matter, reviewing viral meningitis reports, CCTV footage, and the role of private hospitals involved in her treatment.

Timeline of Events

The student was found unconscious on January 6, 2026, and was subsequently treated in three private hospitals. Despite medical care, she succumbed on January 11, 2026. According to her family, doctors initially diagnosed viral meningitis and brain clotting, but after her death, the hospitals claimed a drug overdose as the cause. This conflicting information has raised suspicions of possible foul play.

Family Demands Answers

The family alleges that during treatment, doctors did not clarify the student’s condition even after receiving reports on January 8. The sudden claim of a drug overdose after her death has intensified suspicions that the case may involve criminal negligence or deliberate malpractice. The SIT is now investigating whether medical negligence contributed to her death.

Investigative Measures

The SIT is examining CCTV footage from December 5 onward, beyond the earlier timeframe of December 27, as suggested by the family. Investigators have also questioned the driver of the Scorpio who transported the student to Jehanabad, hoping to uncover critical leads.

Awaiting Forensic Reports

Officials say the exact circumstances of the student’s death may have occurred in Jehanabad or another location. The final conclusions will depend on post-mortem findings from AIIMS Patna specialists and the FSL report. The SIT is preparing a detailed report to submit to the DGP once all forensic and investigative evidence is analyzed.
