Ghaziabad – In a move aimed at enhancing women’s safety, controlling crime, and streamlining city traffic, the Ghaziabad Police have made it mandatory for all e-rickshaws to carry a unique QR code. Starting January 1, 2026, drivers operating e-rickshaws without this QR code will face strict legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Mandatory QR Code System
Under the new system, each e-rickshaw will be assigned a unique QR code, which, when scanned, will instantly provide the driver’s name, photograph, mobile number, and vehicle registration details. This ensures that passengers have access to authentic driver information and allows the police to take immediate action in case of accidents or criminal incidents.
Focus on Safety and Traffic Management
DCP Traffic Trigun Vishay explained that the initiative is primarily aimed at enhancing women’s safety. The QR code system will help prevent harassment and misconduct while also making it easier to monitor e-rickshaw operations on designated routes and in no-entry zones. Authorities believe this will also contribute to reducing traffic congestion in the city.
Call to Drivers
The traffic police have urged all e-rickshaw drivers to register and obtain their QR codes within the stipulated time frame, free of charge. Non-compliance will result in strict enforcement starting January 1.
This step is part of Ghaziabad Police’s broader effort to regulate unlicensed and unauthorized e-rickshaws, ensuring safer and more orderly roads for all citizens.
