
Patna, Bihar: The impact of Bihar’s newly formed government was evident on Tuesday as the Patna administration launched a large-scale anti-encroachment drive across the city. Under the directions of District Magistrate Tyagarajan S.M., the operation saw illegal structures removed, fines imposed, and repeat encroachers identified. According to the district control room, the drive was conducted in four major zones, and a total fine of ₹37,400 was collected.
New Capital Zone: Temporary Structures Cleared
In the New Capital Zone, encroachments stretching from Station Golambar to under the Chiraiyatand Bridge near the CDA building were removed. The authorities seized three pushcarts, one small LED TV, and three CCTV cameras during the operation.
Patliputra Zone: Street Vendors and Unauthorized Structures Removed
In the Patliputra Zone, temporary fruit stalls and other encroachments along the road from Boring Road Chauraha to Mandiri were cleared. Officials also seized two flex banners and a four-wheeled cart, imposing a fine of ₹8,000.
Azimabad Zone: Roadside Construction Material Removed
In the Azimabad Zone, bricks, sand, and other construction materials obstructing the roadside from Zero Mile to Baria Bus Stand were removed. Authorities confiscated seven carts and 50 bricks, collecting fines totaling ₹20,300.
Phulwarisharif Municipal Area: Encroachments on Drains Removed
In the Phulwarisharif Municipal Area, both temporary and permanent encroachments on drains from Khoya Imli to Bhagat Singh Chowk were demolished. 30 illegal banners/posters, one pushcart, bamboo, and roadside debris were cleared, with fines amounting to ₹9,100.
DM Emphasizes Accountability
District Magistrate Tyagarajan S.M. stated that removing encroachments is a regular and public-interest-driven process. He instructed municipal officers to ensure effective action and active follow-up teams, emphasizing that preventing encroachments is the personal responsibility of the local police station in-charge. The DM further noted that encroachments on major city thoroughfares like Nehru Path and Ashok Rajpath cause traffic jams and inconvenience for the public.
