Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh: Bhojpuri singer and social media influencer Neha Singh Rathore has once again taken to music to express her dissent after the Allahabad High Court rejected her anticipatory bail petition in a case involving allegations of sedition and inflammatory speech. The court cited her lack of cooperation during investigation as the reason for denying relief.
Song with a Message
Following the court’s decision, Neha released a satirical music video on social media, targeting both the state and central governments. In the song, she strongly criticizes the authorities for harassing women, writing in her caption: “An FIR is registered against me in the country…!” The lyrics warn against intimidation of daughters and daughters-in-law and take aim at bureaucratic overreach and misuse of power.
The song includes sharp lines such as:
“Showing force over women—what kind of masculinity is this? Sir, stop intimidating daughters and daughters-in-law. They fire FIRs at the slightest provocation, following orders from abroad. Democracy is here, not the times of foreigners. We will sing our song; we won’t go to the police station.”
Allegations Against the Government
In another social media post, Neha accused the government of misusing its power. She highlighted selective enforcement, contrasting minor citizens like herself facing harassment while major offenders escape consequences. Referring to incidents like the Goa nightclub fire, she questioned the state’s priorities, criticizing authorities for punishing her while letting powerful criminals go free.
The Legal Case
The FIR against Neha is linked to her social media posts during the Pulwama terrorist attack, which allegedly contained objectionable remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Authorities cited a threat to national unity and security, charging her with sedition, inflammatory speech, and disrupting communal harmony. With her anticipatory bail now rejected, Neha must face the legal process, with few options remaining.
This case has reignited debate over freedom of expression versus national security, while Neha Singh Rathore’s bold musical critique continues to attract widespread attention online.
