Meerut, January 27, 2026: A serious road accident occurred on National Highway 58 near Pallavpuram police station in Meerut on Tuesday, leaving six passengers critically injured. A passenger bus traveling from Delhi to Dehradun collided with a road roller that had been carelessly left in the wrong direction after construction work. Several other passengers sustained minor injuries.
The accident reportedly took place around 3 a.m., while road repair work was underway on the highway. After completing the work, the heavy road roller used in construction was parked in the wrong direction without any warning signs, barricades, or reflectors, and the operator left the site. The passenger bus, moving at high speed toward Dehradun, failed to spot the unlit roller in the darkness and crashed directly into it. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely damaged, causing panic and screams among the passengers.
The scene on the highway quickly turned chaotic. Local residents and passersby immediately alerted the police, and the Pallavpuram police rushed to the spot, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals with the help of ambulances. According to doctors, six passengers are in critical condition, while others have received primary treatment.
Traffic authorities stated that as per regulations, any heavy machinery parked on the road must have warning boards, barricades, and proper lighting. In this case, these safety measures were entirely neglected. Pallavpuram police have launched an investigation into the incident, examining the role of both the roller operator and the construction agency. Legal action may be taken against the agency if found guilty.
