NEET Student Death Case: Rohini Acharya Criticizes Patna Police and SIT, Questions Investigation

Patna: The death of a NEET aspirant in Patna has ignited political debate in Bihar. RJD leader Rohini Acharya, daughter of party supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, has sharply criticized the Nitish Kumar government and Bihar Police for what she terms a “directionless investigation.”

Posting on social media platform X, Acharya alleged that even after nearly two weeks since the incident, the probe remains unclear and misleading theories are being floated daily. “Despite the availability of post-mortem reports and other evidence that clarify the facts, the police are presenting new misleading narratives every day under the guise of investigation,” she wrote.

No Concrete Action Yet

Acharya further accused authorities of failing to take decisive action against hostel operators, the Sahaj Surgery Nursing Home, Prabhat Memorial Hospital, doctors involved, and senior police officers, including the female officer at Chitragupt Nagar police station. She also criticized the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for remaining silent on the non-arrest of main suspects. “The Chief Minister remains silent, while the Home Minister responds with routine, formulaic answers,” she added.

Allegations of Deliberate Delay

Rohini Acharya alleged that the Bihar government and police are deliberately delaying the investigation, possibly to protect accused individuals from facing pressure. She claimed this tactic appears aimed at suppressing the case and avoiding accountability for those allegedly involved.

Case Background

The incident occurred at Shambhu Girls Hostel in the Chitragupt Nagar area of Patna. The student, preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam from Jehanabad district, was found unconscious in her room and immediately taken to a hospital. She passed away on 11 January during treatment. The family has alleged that the student was sexually assaulted.

The case has raised serious concerns about the investigation’s pace and transparency, drawing national attention and intensifying political scrutiny in Bihar.
