NEET Student Death Case: Rabri Devi Slams Government and CBI, Questions Handling of Investigation

PATNA: Tensions flared outside the Bihar Legislative Council as the opposition staged a protest over the suspicious death of a NEET student. Leading the demonstration, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi sharply criticized the state government and the CBI, alleging attempts to cover up the case and protect influential individuals. Opposition members expressed fears of collusion involving ruling party leaders.

Opposition Raises Voice for Justice

Opposition lawmakers, holding banners and posters, surrounded the council premises, chanting slogans against the government. Female members of the protest emphasized that injustice against daughters of Bihar will not be tolerated. The case involves a meritorious student from Jehanabad, whose death has raised serious questions about the police’s investigation, which the opposition claims was suspect from the start and now appears to be deliberately subdued.

Allegations of a Cover-Up

Rabri Devi accused the government of first allowing the police to tamper with evidence before handing over the case to the CBI. She expressed skepticism about the impartiality of the central agency, stating that if both police and administration favor the accused, it is nearly impossible for the victim’s family to secure justice.

Powerful Individuals May Be Involved

The former CM hinted at the involvement of a powerful minister or a ruling party leader’s son in the case, claiming that the government’s silence and secrecy are motivated by a desire to shield influential individuals. She suggested that these attempts to manipulate the direction of the investigation are a major reason for the lack of transparency.

Law and Order Concerns Across Bihar

During the protest, Rabri Devi expressed grave concern over Bihar’s law and order situation, stating that there is no district in the state where women and girls are free from crime. The opposition demanded that the government not just assure an investigation but also ensure strict punishment for the culprits, sending a strong message to prevent similar incidents in the future.
