Patna: The investigation into the suspicious death of a NEET (medical entrance) student from Jehanabad, residing in a girls’ hostel in Patna, has taken a new turn. Following initial claims of suicide, the post-mortem report revealed signs of sexual assault, prompting the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to focus on scientific evidence. As part of the probe, DNA samples have been collected from six suspects. However, the collection of DNA from the victim’s father, brother, and maternal uncle has sparked sharp criticism from Purnia MP Pappu Yadav.
DNA Samples Collected from Suspects
The SIT, working under tight security at Patna’s Gurdani Bagh Hospital with a magistrate present, collected DNA samples from six individuals spotted in suspicious circumstances near the hostel on the day of the incident, according to sources. Forensic analysis had confirmed the presence of semen on the victim’s body, and the samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for matching. Police hope the scientific evidence will help identify the primary perpetrator.
Pappu Yadav Criticizes Police Action
The investigation took a controversial turn when the SIT collected DNA from the victim’s immediate family—her father, brother, and maternal uncle. Pappu Yadav expressed strong disapproval on social media, calling the police “shameless” for allegedly humiliating the family fighting for justice. He questioned the logic behind taking the family’s DNA, asking why the family would oppose justice if they were involved in the crime.
Two Police Officers Suspended for Negligence
Meanwhile, the SSP’s office has suspended Hemant Jha, Deputy Superintendent of Police at Kadamkua, and Roshni Kumari, Station Officer at Chitragupt Nagar, for dereliction of duty. Both officers allegedly failed to gather timely information and delayed action against suspects. Initially treating the case as a suicide, police were compelled to revise their stance after the family’s persistent pressure and medical evidence pointed toward sexual assault and murder.
The investigation continues, with police analyzing call details and scientific evidence to track down the main suspect. The case remains under intense scrutiny amid growing political controversy.
