NEET Aspirant Death in Bihar: Family Alleges Police Cover-Up, Demands Justice

Patna, Bihar – The family of a NEET aspirant who died earlier this month has accused Bihar police of attempting to suppress the case. The parents alleged that authorities are dismissing the incident as a suicide while denying sexual assault, prompting them to seek a meeting with the state Home Minister, Samrat Chaudhary.

Family Challenges Suicide Theory

The deceased student, who was preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam, was found unconscious in a private hostel room for girls in Chitragupt Nagar, Patna, earlier this month. After several days in a coma, she passed away on January 11 at a private hospital. Speaking to reporters on Friday, her mother said, “We feel our hopes for justice are fading. The DGP, Vinay Kumar, considers this a suicide case. He told us that if we are not satisfied, we may meet the Home Minister. We are completely distressed.” Accompanying the parents were other family members, including the deceased’s maternal uncle and lawyer S.K. Pandey.

Forensic Evidence Indicates Sexual Assault

Lawyer Pandey criticized the police stance, saying, “The parents were allowed to meet the DGP, but they came out deeply upset. The forensic report found traces of semen on the girl’s undergarments, yet the DGP still treats this as a suicide without acknowledging sexual assault. We may now have to approach the court, as the police are failing to deliver justice.” When asked about requesting a CBI probe, Pandey said, “Our only demand is justice.”

The deceased’s maternal uncle added that police are pressuring the family, stating, “The authorities are forcing us to the point where we feel there is no recourse other than extreme measures.” Police officials, however, declined to comment on the family’s allegations, and the DGP was unavailable for comment.

Investigation and DNA Testing Underway

The police investigating the case recently confirmed that forensic tests on the student’s clothing revealed traces of semen, pointing strongly toward sexual assault. A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “DNA profiles are being prepared from the forensic evidence and will be matched with arrested suspects and other individuals under investigation. DNA samples are being collected from multiple people as part of the probe.”

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to examine all aspects of the case, as the family continues to demand justice for the deceased student.
