Nawada Mob Lynching Victim Dies; Chilling Dying Declaration Captured on Camera

Nawada (Bihar): A 40-year-old cloth trader who was brutally assaulted in a mob lynching incident in Bihar’s Nawada district has succumbed to his injuries, days after giving a harrowing dying declaration describing the night of terror he endured.

The incident occurred on December 5 in Bhatta village under Roh police station limits, where Mohammad Athar Hussain, a resident of Gagan Deeh locality in Nalanda district, was allegedly attacked and tortured by a mob. He passed away late Friday night during treatment at Biharsharif Sadar Hospital.

Victim’s Dying Declaration Reveals Extreme Brutality

Before his death, Athar recorded a detailed statement on December 7, which was captured on camera by an NBT correspondent. In his dying declaration, Athar narrated the horrifying sequence of events that led to his fatal injuries.

According to his statement, while returning from Dumri village, he was stopped by six to seven intoxicated youths who first asked his name. Upon hearing it, they allegedly dragged him off his motorcycle, looted him, tied his hands and legs, and locked him inside a room.

Athar further alleged that his attackers stripped him, subjected him to degrading physical checks, poured petrol on his body, and branded him with a red-hot iron rod on multiple parts of his body. His fingers and hands were reportedly broken during the assault. As the violence escalated, the number of attackers increased to 15–20 people, he said.

Police later rescued him and admitted him first to Nawada Sadar Hospital, from where he was referred to Biharsharif due to the severity of his injuries.
