
Gwalior, MP: A sudden and severe hailstorm wreaked havoc in parts of Gwalior on Tuesday morning, devastating rabi crops in the Bhitarwar and Chinor regions. The storm, which struck in a matter of minutes, left roads and fields blanketed in ice, causing significant losses for farmers.
Rabi Crops Flattened
At this time of year, wheat, chickpea, and mustard crops were approaching maturity. Farmers had high hopes for a good harvest, but the intense hail shattered their expectations. Many fields were left flattened, with leaves pierced and stalks bent or broken. Villagers reported that the hail was so dense and heavy that the fields were covered in a white layer almost instantly.
Shock and Despair Among Farmers
When farmers reached their fields in the morning, they were met with devastation. Months of hard work and investment appeared to have been wiped out. Many warned that if a proper assessment is not conducted, this could turn out to be the worst natural setback of the season.
Growing Concern in Villages
News of the hailstorm has sparked anxiety throughout the affected villages. Farmers are urging the administration to conduct immediate surveys and provide compensation, warning that delays could exacerbate the economic crisis.
The sudden weather calamity has once again highlighted the vulnerability of farmers, as the ice not only destroyed crops but also dashed hopes.
