Indore: In a shocking incident of harassment, a female national-level shooter was allegedly molested by a bus conductor while traveling on a private bus from Bhopal to Pune. The victim, who had participated in a national competition in Bhopal, bravely confronted the conductor and driver mid-journey, forcing them to flee. She later filed a complaint with the Rajendra Nagar Police Station, and authorities have initiated an investigation.
Harassment on Moving Bus
According to reports, the shooter boarded the private bus operated by Verma Travels after her competition in Bhopal. The conductor allegedly made inappropriate physical contact with her during the journey. The victim reacted courageously, physically confronting both the conductor and the driver. The altercation caused the bus to stop in the middle of the road, inconveniencing passengers, until another driver was sent by the bus operator to continue the journey toward Pune.
Accused Were Intoxicated
Initial reports indicate that both the driver and conductor were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. This is not the first case of misconduct against female athletes in Indore. Earlier, on 6 November, a similar incident occurred on a Mumbai-Indore bus route operated by Hans Travels.
Previous Cases Highlight Safety Concerns
Passengers have previously reported harassment, including a recent case where the driver and cleaner of a bus were accused of aiding a male passenger in misbehavior toward a female traveler. The Rajendra Nagar Police had registered a FIR in that case and transferred the personnel involved to Barwani.
Earlier Incident Involving Australian Women Cricketers
In another recent incident, on 25 October, two Australian women cricket players visiting Indore for the ICC Women’s World Cup were followed by a bike-riding suspect, and one of the players was inappropriately touched. The police had formed a special team across five police stations to track down and arrest the accused, Akil.
The latest incident underscores the urgent need for stricter safety measures for female athletes and travelers in the region.
