National Basketball Player Dies After Pole Collapses During Practice in Rohtak

Rohtak: In a heartbreaking incident, a 16-year-old national-level basketball player, Hardik, lost his life after a basketball pole collapsed on him during practice in Lakhna Majra village of Rohtak, Haryana. The shocking accident, captured on CCTV, has left the sports community and local residents devastated.

Young Talent Lost to Negligence

Hardik, a promising player who had already earned multiple medals at the national level, was practicing alone at the village playground around 10 AM on Tuesday. As part of his regular drill, he attempted a shot by hanging momentarily on the basketball hoop. Suddenly, the pole gave way and fell directly on him, causing severe head injuries.

Nearby players from other sports, hearing Hardik’s screams, rushed to the court. They lifted the pole off him and immediately transported him to the hospital.

Succumbed During Treatment

According to the police, Hardik was brought to PGIMS Rohtak in critical condition with major head trauma. Although he was still breathing upon arrival, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

A Rising Star in Indian Basketball

Hardik was regarded as one of the most promising young basketball talents from the region. His achievements included:

  • Silver medal at the 47th Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship in Kangra
  • Bronze medal at the 49th Sub-Junior Nationals in Hyderabad
  • Bronze medal at the 39th Youth National Championship in Puducherry

Coaches and teammates remember him as a dedicated and disciplined player with a bright future ahead.

Another Similar Tragedy Two Days Earlier

Shockingly, this is the second such incident in just two days. A similar accident occurred in Bahadurgarh, where Aman, a 15-year-old basketball player, died after a pole collapsed at Hoshiar Singh Sports Stadium. He, too, was rushed to PGIMS Rohtak but couldn’t survive.

Questions Raised About Sports Infrastructure

Two deaths in two days due to collapsing poles have raised serious concerns about the safety standards and maintenance of sports infrastructure in Haryana. Parents and athletes are demanding strict audits of playgrounds and immediate corrective action.
