Gurugram, Haryana: In a bid to streamline operations and avoid traffic congestion, the Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi has directed a detailed study for a new design of the Namo Bharat Train station at Shankar Chowk, Cyber City, Gurugram. The meeting was attended by officials from the Urban and Rural Planning Department, Power Corporation, NCRTC, GMRC, HSIIDC, and Gurugram Municipal Corporation.
Station Location and Design Challenges
The proposed station is part of the Delhi-Dharuhera Namo Bharat Train corridor. During the meeting, NCRTC presented the preliminary station design to the Chief Secretary. He asked for modifications to ensure smooth passenger flow and traffic management.
However, NCRTC expressed reservations about changing the location, stating that the Shankar Chowk site would not cause operational issues. The station’s entry and exit gates are planned to be set away from the main roads to minimize congestion. Sources added that delays in finalizing the Shankar Chowk site have affected the Old Gurugram Metro’s Cyber City station construction plan.
New Design Handover to HSIIDC
NCRTC has handed over the updated station design to HSIIDC for implementation. The design includes entry and exit gates connecting Cyber City, Cyber Hub, and HIL land, aiming to prevent traffic jams in the area. HSIIDC raised concerns that the station could still impact local traffic flow, prompting the Chief Secretary to order a thorough review of the new design.
Officials from the Urban and Rural Planning Department, Electricity Corporation, NCRTC, GMRC, HSIIDC, and Gurugram Municipal Corporation will participate in the study to finalize a station layout that balances operational efficiency with urban traffic management.
