
Meerut/Delhi: The new Namo Bharat Train service has officially commenced operations between Modipuram in Meerut and Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. Flagged off by Narendra Modi at the Centenary Namo Bharat Station, the service is expected to provide faster connectivity for passengers traveling to key urban centers such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut. The 82-kilometre Delhi–Meerut corridor allows travelers to reach their destination in just 55 minutes.
With the launch, passengers have many questions regarding ticketing, reserved coaches, and onboard facilities. Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions:
1. Ticket-free travel for children:
Children shorter than 90 cm can travel without a ticket. Adults accompanying such children are allowed to bring them on board free of charge.
2. Pets on board:
Travel with pets is not allowed on Namo Bharat trains.
3. Vehicle parking at stations:
Parking is currently available at five Namo Bharat stations, with plans to extend this facility to other stations gradually.
4. Location of premium coaches:
For trains departing Meerut to Delhi, the first coach is the premium coach. On the return journey from Delhi to Meerut, the last coach is the premium coach.
5. Reserved coach for women:
Every train has a women-only reserved coach, located adjacent to the premium coach. Additionally, all coaches have a limited number of seats reserved for women. Divyang (differently-abled) passengers and young schoolchildren are also allowed in women’s reserved coaches.
6. Seats for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers:
Each coach has reserved seats for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers, similar to the arrangements for women.
7. Mobile charging facilities:
All coaches are equipped with charging points, allowing passengers to charge mobile phones and other devices during the journey.
8. Lost tickets or cards:
In case of a lost ticket or travel card, passengers are required to pay the fare up to the destination station plus any applicable fines.
9. Seat reservations:
The Namo Bharat Train is a timetable-based service without advance seat reservations. Trains run every 15 minutes at stations along the corridor, ensuring frequent service.
10. Medical facilities:
All trains are equipped with first-aid boxes, and in case of emergencies, ambulances can be arranged through CATS (Centralized Ambulance Tracking System).
11. Stretcher facilities:
Passengers requiring a stretcher or wheelchair can use these facilities in the first coach for Delhi-bound trains and the last coach for Meerut-bound trains. Station lifts are also available to assist passengers with limited mobility.
The Namo Bharat Train is designed to offer fast, comfortable, and safe travel between Meerut and Delhi, with special attention to women, children, and differently-abled passengers.
