Nalanda, Bihar: A major road accident took place on Monday near the Kanchanpur bridge under the Deepnagar police station area, where a bus carrying wedding guests lost control and rammed into a divider on the overbridge. The crash left one person dead and more than 25 others seriously injured.
According to reports, the passengers were returning to Warsaliganj after attending a wedding ceremony at a hotel in Sohsarai. The deceased has been identified as Sidheshwar Prasad, a resident of Bhaironbigha under Kashichak police station.
Driver on Mobile Phone, Bus at High Speed
Eyewitnesses stated that the bus was moving at high speed when the driver was allegedly talking on his mobile phone. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to crash violently into the divider. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely mangled.
One of the passengers, who was seated on the roof of the bus, reportedly fell off the overbridge due to the collision and died on the spot.
The sudden crash created chaos inside the bus. Several passengers were trapped under seats and piled on top of each other as the vehicle shook violently. Smoke filled the bus, adding to the panic, while children and women screamed for help. Some passengers managed to escape by breaking the windows and jumping out.
More Than 25 Injured
Survivors such as Santosh Kumar, Satyendra Prasad, Anita Devi, and Shobha Devi recalled that nearly 50 people were on board. They said the bus was travelling at around 80 km/h when the driver suddenly lost balance while speaking on the phone.
Local villagers rushed to the spot upon hearing the impact. They broke the windows to help trapped passengers escape and assisted in the rescue operations. All injured individuals were taken to Pawapuri VIMS with the help of local residents and police personnel. Two of them are reported to be in critical condition.
Villagers Angry Over Delay in Ambulance
Villagers expressed strong resentment over the delayed arrival of ambulances, claiming that timely medical response could have saved several injured passengers from further complications.
Deepnagar Police Station in-charge Rajmani Kumar reached the site soon after the incident. He said initial investigations suggest overspeeding and driver negligence as the primary cause of the accident. Further inquiry is underway.
