Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt Suggests “Ram Naam” as a Panacea for Family and Personal Issues

During the Winter Session of Parliament, political debate over the proposed changes to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) intensified. The government’s plan to introduce a new policy and rename the scheme has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition, especially the Congress party, which claims that the change erases Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi had previously criticized the move.

In the heated discussions, Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar MP Ajay Bhatt presented a unique perspective. Highlighting the spiritual significance of Lord Ram’s name, he suggested that chanting “Ram Naam” could provide solutions for a wide range of personal and familial problems.

Addressing Parliament, Ajay Bhatt dismissed Congress’s allegations and elaborated on the proposed scheme’s name and purpose. He clarified that the scheme’s renaming was not meant to diminish Gandhi’s legacy. The BJP MP explained that the nine-word mantra—Ram, He Ram, Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai-Jai Ram—was historically endorsed by Mahatma Gandhi and was entirely harmless and spiritually powerful.

“Ram Naam for Every Problem”
MP Bhatt gave several examples of the mantra’s purported efficacy, saying:

  • If a daughter’s marriage is delayed, chant Ram Naam.
  • If a person is struggling to find a job, chant Ram Naam.
  • If there is discord at home or between husband and wife, chant Ram Naam.
  • Even if a cow is not giving milk, chant Ram Naam.

He emphasized that reciting Ram Naam could resolve every problem, providing spiritual support alongside practical solutions.

Parliamentary and Public Reactions
The MP’s statement sparked widespread discussion both inside and outside Parliament. A video of his speech has gone viral on social media, generating mixed reactions. Some netizens have welcomed his spiritual approach, while others questioned linking government policies to religious mantras. Many users have pointed out that effective implementation of employment schemes, rather than renaming them, is what would truly bring change.

Scheme Name Clarified
Ajay Bhatt also clarified the new scheme’s official name: Viksit Bharat – Jee Ram Jee (Developed India Guarantee for Employment and Rural Mission). He questioned why the inclusion of “Ram” in the name was a matter of controversy when the focus should be on delivering tangible benefits.
