‘My Mistakes Were Unintentional, But Yours Were Deliberate’: CM Rekha Gupta Slams AAP

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing its leaders of deliberately targeting a woman Chief Minister and attempting to malign her image through false narratives and personal attacks.

Speaking in the Delhi Assembly while concluding the discussion on the vote of thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address, CM Gupta said that a few words spoken by her inadvertently were turned into “political weapons” by AAP leaders. “My mistakes were unintentional, but you are committing mistakes deliberately,” she remarked, drawing a clear distinction between human error and what she termed as calculated political conduct.

The Chief Minister alleged that AAP leaders were uncomfortable seeing a woman Chief Minister working round the clock for Delhi. “They cannot tolerate a woman Chief Minister working 24 hours a day. This unsettles them, and as a result, they resort to cheap remarks, baseless allegations and deliberate misinterpretation of words to damage my reputation,” she said.

Referring to alleged objectionable language used by AAP leaders, including Leader of Opposition Atishi, in the context of Sikh gurus, CM Gupta said that any insult to Sikh religious figures would not be tolerated. She also accused the previous AAP government of rampant corruption during its 11-year rule.

“You did not make a slip of the tongue. You knowingly lied to the people of Delhi. The journey from ‘fasting protests’ to the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ was not accidental. It was a well-planned conspiracy and a calculated political strategy,” she said, in a scathing reference to AAP’s leadership.

Highlighting her government’s performance, CM Gupta asserted that the BJP-led administration had achieved in 11 months what the AAP government failed to accomplish in 11 years. She said her government’s foundation rests on “clear policy and clean intent,” and that Delhi is now emerging from years of confrontation and mismanagement through better coordination between the Centre and the Delhi government.

Detailing key initiatives, the Chief Minister said the government is working at war footing to make Delhi’s public transport system 100 percent electric. This includes the development of new Integrated Smart Transport Bases (ISTBs), renovation of old depots, capacity enhancement and installation of EV charging stations.

Reiterating her commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people of Delhi, CM Gupta said that 100 Atal Canteens are being set up to ensure that no hardworking or poor citizen goes hungry. “So far, 45 Atal Canteens have been opened and the remaining 55 will be operational soon. This is a new model of service governance. This is the difference between their 11 years of rule and our 11 months,” she said.

Concluding her address, the Chief Minister reaffirmed her resolve to continue serving the people of Delhi with full dedication, despite what she described as persistent and motivated attempts by the opposition to undermine her work and credibility.
