
Muzaffarnagar, UP: In a shocking incident in Husainpur village under Budhana police station, 24-year-old mobile shop owner Anas, son of Irshad, attempted self-immolation on Wednesday afternoon. The young man allegedly resorted to the extreme step after facing police harassment and an extortion demand of ₹5 lakh.
Critical Condition and Medical Treatment
Anas, who suffered over 80% burns, was initially admitted to Budhana CHC, then transferred to the district hospital, followed by Meerut Medical College, and finally Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where his condition remains extremely critical.
Viral Video Sparks Outrage
A video of Anas lying in a hospital bed, writhing in pain and making serious allegations against the police, quickly went viral on social media. In the clip, he states:
“The police demanded ₹5 lakh… beat me badly… I paid ₹50,000 and was released… they ruined my life… threatened to shoot me in the leg and kill me…”
Circumstances of Custody
Authorities have yet to clarify the reason for Anas’ detention. Locals claim he was not involved in any criminal activity and only ran a small mobile shop.
SSP Orders Investigation
Following the incident, SSP Abhishek Singh immediately directed SP Rural Aditya Bansal to conduct a thorough departmental inquiry. SP Bansal stated that Anas’ condition is being monitored closely with the Delhi hospital, and any police involvement will be dealt with severely.
Public Anger Mounts
The incident has triggered widespread anger in the village, with locals protesting and chanting slogans against the police. Anas’ family has warned that any harm to him would spark a major public movement.
