
Mussoorie, Uttarakhand: Mussoorie witnessed a historic moment on Sunday morning as the first-ever international Ultra Marathon took place, fulfilling actor Tom Alter’s long-cherished dream of turning the hill station into a global marathon destination. The event commenced at dawn with a flag-off by Additional Tourism Secretary Abhishek Rohilla and Municipal Chairperson Meera Saklani.
Runners from Across the Globe Take on Mussoorie’s Hills
A total of 411 participants from India and abroad competed across multiple categories, including 50 km, 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km. The runners were visibly thrilled as they raced through Mussoorie’s blue hills and pristine surroundings, showcasing endurance, determination, and the spirit of competition.
Chief Guest Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi Awards Winners
At the closing ceremony, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi presented trophies and cash prizes to the winners, while congratulating the organizing committee and local bodies for the successful event. Minister Joshi highlighted that such initiatives promote winter tourism and create new opportunities in the state.
50 km Ultra Marathon Winner
In the grueling 50 km category, Tsewang of the Indian Army secured first place, completing the course in approximately 3 hours 40 minutes. Delhi’s Om Darshan finished third and described the experience of running at 6,000 feet as unforgettable.

Inspiring Emotions and Vision for Mussoorie
Abhishek Rohilla said the marathon will give a fresh impetus to Mussoorie’s winter tourism. Jimmy Alter, son of Tom Alter, expressed emotional satisfaction as his father’s dream came true. Meera Saklani noted that the event sent a message to the world that Mussoorie is a safe and ideal destination for running.
Organizers highlighted that the participation of 411 runners reflects Mussoorie’s potential as an international tourism and sporting destination. Plans are underway to integrate the Ultra Marathon with the Mussoorie Winter Line Carnival in the future, turning it into a month-long tourism festival.
