Mussoorie to Host 50 km Ultra Marathon Fulfilling Late Actor Tom Alter’s Dream


Mussoorie, Uttarakhand: On 23rd November, the picturesque hill station of Mussoorie will witness a historic sporting event as a 50-kilometer ultra marathon is organized to fulfill the unfinished dream of renowned actor Tom Alter. Around 400 runners from across India and abroad are expected to participate in this landmark event.

Honoring Tom Alter’s Legacy

Tom Alter considered Mussoorie his second home and was known for organizing 21 km half marathons here every October. He had envisioned hosting a full 42 km marathon in the hills of Mussoorie. Under the leadership of Sandeep Sahni, President of the Uttarakhand Hotel and Restaurant Association, this dream is now coming to fruition.

The event will feature a 50 km ultra marathon, a 42.2 km full marathon, a 21.1 km half marathon, as well as 10 km and 5 km races for participants of all ages and skill levels. Sandeep Sahni remarked, “This event is a tribute to Tom Alter. It will strengthen Mussoorie’s sporting culture and also mark the inauguration of the Winterline Carnival.”

Support from Local Sports Associations and Municipality

Rupchand Guruji, Patron of the Mussoorie Sports Association, expressed his emotions, saying, “Tom Alter was part of our family. Seeing his dream realized today fills us with immense pride.”

Mussoorie Municipal Council Chairperson Meera Saklani assured full municipal support, including road repairs, security arrangements, and facilities, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all participants.

This ultra marathon not only honors a beloved actor’s legacy but also aims to boost tourism and promote a vibrant sporting culture in the scenic hills of Uttarakhand.
