Muslim Woman Insists on Marrying Hindu Man in Sambhal, Statements Recorded Before Child Welfare Committee

Sambhal, Feb 3:
A case related to an interfaith relationship has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, where a Muslim woman has expressed her desire to marry a Hindu man, citing a four-year-long relationship. The woman has recorded her statements before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), asserting that she wishes to live with and marry the man of her own free will.

The matter pertains to Nawada village under Hazratnagar Garhi police station area, where Ankit Kumar, a local resident, and Sameerin, a Muslim woman from the same village, have allegedly been in a relationship for nearly four years.

According to both individuals, on January 26, Sameerin voluntarily went to Ankit’s house and conveyed her intention to stay with him and marry him. As the case involves individuals from two different communities, concerns over possible tension in the village emerged. In view of the situation, Ankit’s family temporarily sent the woman to a relative’s house.

Subsequently, the woman’s family informed the police, following which an inquiry was initiated. On Monday, the police produced Sameerin before the Child Welfare Committee in Bahjoi, where her statements were formally recorded.

Ankit Kumar stated that both he and Sameerin are adults and have been in contact with each other for the past four years. He maintained that Sameerin came to his house without any pressure or coercion, a claim that, according to him, is supported by her statements before the police and the CWC.

In her statement, Sameerin confirmed that she has been in a relationship with Ankit for four years and that she went to his house on her own will. She stated that she faces no pressure from any side and wishes to live with Ankit.

She further told the committee that she is willing to marry according to Hindu customs and is also considering a change of name after marriage. The woman also expressed concern for the safety of Ankit and his family, stating that if any harm comes to them, her family should be held responsible.

Police officials said that statements of both parties have been recorded and the matter is being examined. Further action, they added, will be taken strictly in accordance with the law.
