Ambala/Kurukshetra: In a spectacular display of dairy excellence, a Murrah buffalo named ‘Sundara’, owned by Ambala farmer Ravindra Singh, popularly known as Billu, clinched first place at the livestock fair held in Kurukshetra. Sundara produced an impressive 29.650 kilograms of milk, earning her owner a Bullet motorcycle as the prize.
Sundara is not just any buffalo—Billu purchased her last year for ₹51.30 lakh, making her one of the most expensive buffaloes in the world. Her consistent performance has justified her price, as she has now won three major awards in a single year. Earlier, she secured a tractor in one competition and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh in another.
A Record-Breaking Milk Performance
The three-day livestock fair was organized by the Dairy Farm Association of Haryana. Sundara’s remarkable milk yield of 29.650 kg not only secured her first place but also drew admiration from farmers across the country. Her achievement underscores her extraordinary genetic potential and dairy capabilities, highlighting why she is considered one of the most prized Murrah buffaloes.
Owner Credits Breed for Success
Speaking about Sundara’s success, Billu emphasized the importance of breed quality in animal husbandry. “The breed of the animal plays the most critical role in livestock management. Earlier, my father kept animals without much focus on breed, but now, with high-quality animals like Sundara, we can win competitions,” he said.
Billu shared that in December 2025, Sundara had already brought him two victories—one earning a tractor and another earning ₹2 lakh in cash. With her latest win at Kurukshetra, she has now added a Bullet motorcycle to her accolades.
Farmers from Across States Participate
The Kurukshetra livestock fair was not limited to Haryana alone. Farmers from Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and several other states participated, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition. Billu noted that the warmth and cooperation among the farmers made the fair a positive and encouraging platform for all livestock enthusiasts.
Sundara’s consistent record and extraordinary milk yield have made her a symbol of excellence in dairy farming, reflecting the growing recognition of quality breeds in India’s livestock sector.
