‘Municipality Is Doing Fish Farming Here’: Posters on Dankaur Roads Highlight Public Anger Over Waterlogging

Residents of Dankaur town in Greater Noida have adopted an unusual yet striking form of protest to draw attention to the persistent problem of waterlogging on their streets. Frustrated by months of inaction, locals have put up sarcastic posters across key roads, mocking the civic authorities for failing to address the issue.

The banners, now widely discussed, read: “Please drive slowly. Dankaur Nagar Panchayat is doing fish farming here.” The message, laden with irony, reflects the depth of public anger over knee-deep water that has turned major roads into virtual ponds.

Waterlogged Roads Disrupt Daily Life

For a long time, the main routes of Dankaur—particularly Dhanauri Road and the bypass—have remained submerged under several feet of stagnant water. The waterlogging has severely affected vehicular movement as well as pedestrian access, making daily commuting a challenge for residents.

Locals blame the problem on the lack of proper drainage and alleged negligence by the Nagar Panchayat. Despite repeated complaints, they say no effective steps have been taken to resolve the situation, forcing them to resort to public protest.

Health Risks and Growing Frustration

Residents Manoj Nagar and Rakesh expressed concern that the accumulated dirty water poses a serious threat of infectious diseases and dengue. Schoolchildren, elderly residents, and daily commuters are compelled to wade through filthy water, risking their health and safety.

They warned that if the water is not drained soon, the protest could escalate into a larger agitation.

Municipal Response

Responding to the criticism, Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Rajwati Devi said that the waterlogging issue is under her notice and assured that efforts are being made to address it. She stated that steps would be taken soon to drain the water and provide relief to the residents.

Until concrete action is seen on the ground, however, the sarcastic posters continue to speak louder than words—turning Dankaur’s flooded roads into a powerful symbol of civic neglect and public frustration.
