Mumbai Mayor to Get ₹35 Lakh Car: BMC Prepares Luxury Vehicles for Top Officials

Mumbai: As the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gears up for the upcoming mayoral elections, the civic body has made elaborate arrangements for vehicles for the city’s top leaders. The newly elected Mayor will be provided with a Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid worth ₹30–35 lakh. In addition, the Deputy Mayor, Leader of the House, Leader of the Opposition, and committee chairpersons will be allotted Mahindra Scorpio N vehicles, featuring saffron stripes for easy identification.

Election Timeline and Vehicle Allocation
The elections for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions are scheduled for 11 February. Following this, elections will be held for the Standing Committee, Education Committee, Improvement Committee, BEST Committee chairpersons, and 18 ward committees, including special committees. Once elected, officials will receive vehicles for daily use, with the Mayor’s car being the high-end Innova Hycross Hybrid.

Scorpios for Deputies and Committee Heads
The Deputy Mayor, Leaders of the House and Opposition, three statutory committee chairpersons, and six special committee chairpersons will be provided Scorpio N vehicles. According to a senior BMC official, saffron stripes will be added to both sides of these vehicles for visibility and identification.

Ward Committee Chairpersons to Get Leased Vehicles
Mumbai has 18 ward committees, and their respective chairpersons will be assigned vehicles on lease with yellow number plates. The entire exercise of procuring and leasing vehicles for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and committee chairpersons has reportedly cost the BMC several crores.

Final Touches on the Mayor’s Vehicle
The BMC’s Solid Waste Management Department has completed the procurement process for these vehicles. The Mayor’s Innova will feature the Mayor’s name and the BMC logo on the front, with final design details in the last stages of approval.
