Mumbai Girlfriend Murdered in Gorakhpur; Engineer Kills Woman With Wife’s Help, Police Crack Case in Three Days

A shocking murder case involving betrayal, deception and brutality has been unearthed in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman from Mumbai was allegedly murdered by her lover with the active assistance of his wife. The police solved the case within three days, arresting both accused after crucial evidence emerged from CCTV footage and interrogation.

The incident came to light last Thursday when the naked body of a 35-year-old woman was found near Gobrahia Bridge close to a drain in the Pipiganj police station area, triggering panic among local residents. Villagers alerted the police, following which the body was sent for post-mortem examination. Senior police officials, forensic experts and a dog squad inspected the crime scene.

Victim Identified as Mumbai Resident

During the investigation, the deceased was identified as Priya Shetty, a resident of Mumbai. Police revealed that she was in a relationship with Vijay Kumar, an engineer originally from Tighra village in Gorakhpur, who was working with a private company in Mumbai. The two had met at a bar in Mumbai, after which their relationship deepened and they later lived together in a live-in arrangement.

According to the police, trouble began when Priya started pressuring Vijay to marry her. To avoid the relationship, Vijay quit his job in Mumbai and returned to his native village. However, Priya traced him and arrived in Gorakhpur earlier this week to confront him.

Murder Planned With Wife

Police said Vijay received Priya at the railway station and rented a room in the city for her stay. He falsely assured her that he would arrange new identity documents and marry her soon. Meanwhile, Vijay informed his wife about the situation, and the couple allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate Priya.

On Thursday night, when Priya was intoxicated, Vijay and his wife took her on a scooter to the Gobrahia drain. There, the woman was strangled to death, and her head was crushed with stones to conceal her identity. The body was later dumped near the drain, and the accused fled the scene.

CCTV Footage Becomes Key Evidence

The breakthrough in the case came through an extensive review of around 40 CCTV cameras installed along the route. Footage from a camera near an Allahabad Bank branch in Pipiganj showed a blue scooter with three people riding towards the spot, with the woman seated in the middle. In subsequent footage captured during the return journey, the woman was missing.

Investigators also noted a two-hour gap between the movement of the scooter before and after the incident, which matched the estimated time of the murder. This crucial evidence led police to Vijay and his wife, who were later arrested from their residence. During interrogation, both accused confessed to the crime.

Police Statement and Further Action

SP North stated that two special teams were formed to investigate the case. “Based on CCTV analysis and technical evidence, the accused husband and wife were identified and arrested. A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway,” the officer said.

The police have also detained the accused’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law for questioning. Vijay has three children from his marriage, including a son and two daughters. His wife was reportedly learning work at a beauty parlour.

Authorities have informed the victim’s family in Mumbai, though no relatives have reached Gorakhpur so far.

The case has once again highlighted the dark consequences of deception and unresolved personal conflicts, leaving the city shaken by the brutality of the crime.
