The New Year 2026 is set to begin with biting cold, dense fog, and a severe cold wave across Madhya Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, a new weather system has triggered the second wave of intense winter chill in the state, causing temperatures to drop sharply from Friday onwards.

The recent period of stable weather has ended, and the state is experiencing a significant dip in temperatures. Wednesday and Thursday nights were particularly cold, with Rajgarh and Narmadapuram recording minimum temperatures of 4.2°C. Other districts also faced a sharp cold spell, with Mandsaur at 4.6°C, Shahdol 4.9°C, Shajapur 5.4°C, Rewa 5.5°C, and major cities such as Gwalior 6.8°C, Datia 6.2°C, Indore 9°C, Raisen 7.6°C, Shivpuri 6°C, Khajuraho 6°C, and Jabalpur 9°C.

The fall in temperatures has been accompanied by increased fog intensity. Gwalior experienced dense fog, while Bhopal, Rewa, Datia, and Satna reported light fog conditions. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for Saturday, predicting dense fog over more than a dozen districts, including Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, and Maihar.

In Bhopal, the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 7°C on Saturday. Officials have cautioned that the combined impact of the cold wave and fog may disrupt normal life, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

Madhya Pradesh is bracing for a cold and foggy start to 2026, with the winter chill expected to intensify in the coming days.
