Maihar, MP: In a dramatic, film-like incident reminiscent of a Bollywood thriller, a minor boy climbed a high-voltage power tower in Maihar district on Thursday, putting his life at risk over a dispute involving his girlfriend. The teenager threatened self-harm, demanding that his girlfriend be brought to the tower before he would come down.
Heart-Stopping Drama Unfolds
The incident took place around 12 noon in a village under Nadan police station. The boy ascended to the top of the massive tower, calling out his alleged girlfriend’s name repeatedly. Villagers, alarmed by the sight, immediately alerted the police.
A heavily armed police team, led by Nadan Station Officer Renuka Mishra, Sub-Inspector Vandana Dwivedi, and Pradeep Tiwari, rushed to the scene. The height of the tower posed a significant challenge, as loudspeaker appeals from below failed to reach the boy effectively. Police and villagers resorted to hand signals and shouting to persuade him, but the boy remained adamant.
Five Hours of Tension
For nearly five hours, the standoff continued, keeping both the authorities and villagers on edge. The boy’s insistence on seeing his girlfriend made the negotiation delicate, as both were minors. The police wisely avoided bringing the girl to the site, considering her safety.
Using psychological tactics and patient negotiation, the officers gradually convinced the boy to come down safely. At 5 PM, after hours of careful persuasion, the teenager finally descended, bringing relief to everyone present.
Safely Handed Over to Family
The boy was counseled on the dangers of his actions and safely handed over to his mother. Station Officer Renuka Mishra told Navbharat Times that the teen had climbed the tower out of anger and emotional frustration, and the authorities ensured he was returned home safely without any harm.
