MP Revenue Minister Threatens ‘Ladli Behna’ Beneficiaries on Stage, Sparks Political Uproar

Sehore, Madhya Pradesh: Madhya Pradesh Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma has sparked controversy with his remarks to beneficiaries of the “Ladli Behna Yojana.” During the inauguration of new sub-health centers in Dhamanda village, the minister openly threatened women on stage, warning that their names would be removed from the scheme if they failed to attend official programs.

Minister Issues On-Stage Warning
Minister Verma expressed his frustration at the low turnout of beneficiaries during the event. He told the gathering, “I will ask the CEO to call everyone on a single day. If they do not come, their names will be removed, and a report will be sent.” In Dhamanda village, 894 beneficiaries receive ₹1,500 per month under the scheme. The minister cited previous delays in payments during the Congress government and emphasized that funds from the central government and Prime Minister’s initiatives continue to reach beneficiaries.

Congress Condemns the Statement
The Congress party strongly criticized the minister’s comments. Leader Bhupendra Gupta said, “Under the BJP government, beneficiaries of social security schemes are being treated as if they are receiving charity. It feels like the government is doing them a favor. This authoritarian attitude, threatening to withdraw payments, is unacceptable and illegal.”

Political Tensions Rise
This is not the first time a Madhya Pradesh minister has made controversial remarks regarding the Ladli Behna Yojana. Earlier, Minister Vijay Shah had warned that applications of beneficiaries who failed to show respect to the Chief Minister could be blocked. Minister Verma’s comments have once again triggered political backlash and debate over the treatment of scheme beneficiaries.
