
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is witnessing record-breaking cold this season, with several districts experiencing temperatures well below normal. Kalyanpur in Shahdol district recorded a chilling 6.9°C, making it the coldest location in the country’s plains. Indore and Rajgarh also reported low temperatures of 7°C, ranking among the coldest cities in India, while the state capital Bhopal recorded 8°C, placing it eighth nationally.
Severe Cold Wave Sweeps the State
The past 24 hours have seen extreme cold envelop many districts in Madhya Pradesh. Indore registered 7°C, emerging as the coldest city in the plains, closely followed by Rajgarh at 7°C. Bhopal recorded a minimum of 8°C, experiencing a sharp drop in nighttime temperatures by nearly 7°C below normal.
Other districts reported similar cold conditions: Umaria (9.5°C), Jabalpur (9.8°C), and Rewa (9.9°C). The state’s maximum daytime temperatures were also below average, with Indore, Ujjain, Chambal, and Rewa recording 3–4°C lower than usual, while Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Shahdol, and Sagar saw a 2°C drop.
Cold Wave Alerts Issued
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for severe cold in Bhopal, Sehore, Rajgarh, Indore, and Shajapur districts. Other districts likely to experience cold waves include Dewas, Satna, Umaria, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Maihar. Anuppur and Balaghat are expected to have cold but sunny days.
Residents are advised to take precautions, especially the elderly and children, as temperatures continue to dip across the state.
