MP Police to Keep a ‘Third Eye’ on Women’s Safety: 125,000 AI-Enabled Cameras Across Cities

Bhopal: In a landmark initiative to enhance women’s safety, the Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters has launched a ₹1,000 crore “Safe City” project under which 125,000 advanced CCTV cameras equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and video analytics will be installed across the state.

Smart Cameras with Real-Time Alerts
These AI-enabled cameras will provide 24/7 surveillance and instantly alert police control rooms to potential threats. The system is designed to identify lone women or suspicious situations. For instance, if a woman is walking alone on a deserted street or is surrounded by a group of men near an educational institution, the system will immediately flag it as a potential risk and notify authorities.

Preventing Suicides and Other Emergencies
The cameras will also be programmed to monitor bridges and other vulnerable locations to prevent suicide attempts. As part of the ₹1,000 crore mega-project, the existing network is being upgraded and integrated. The new cameras will be connected with approximately 25,000 existing cameras at railway stations, emergency helplines (Dial 112), and police stations, creating a unified surveillance grid.

High-Tech Control Rooms Across the State
To manage monitoring, 65 high-tech control rooms will be established across Madhya Pradesh. Modeled on the Lucknow Safe City system, this initiative will not only strengthen women’s safety but also help curb road accidents, speeding vehicles, and suspicious activities. Funded under the Nirbhaya Fund, the project will also enable effective monitoring of police personnel movements and duties.

With this cutting-edge technology, Madhya Pradesh is set to raise the standard of urban safety and public security to unprecedented levels.
