Bhopal: Acting on intelligence inputs and directives from the central government, the Madhya Pradesh Police have launched a large-scale, coordinated crackdown against illegal infiltrators residing in the state. In what officials have termed a “surgical strike”–style operation, police teams conducted intensive search drives across 26 districts, identifying 3,278 suspected Bangladeshi nationals so far.
Following detailed document verification and background checks, 31 illegal infiltrators have already been deported to Bangladesh, officials confirmed. The operation has sent shockwaves across several districts, with law enforcement agencies maintaining heightened vigilance.
Dhar Emerges as the Epicentre of Action
The most significant breakthrough has come from Dhar district, which accounted for the highest number of deportations. A total of 13 Bangladeshi nationals were deported from Dhar alone. This was followed by 10 deportations from Gwalior, three from Jabalpur, and additional cases from major cities including Bhopal and Indore.
Police sources said that verification of the remaining identified suspects is ongoing. “Once their citizenship status is conclusively established, strict legal action will follow as per law,” a senior official stated.
Large Bangladeshi Settlements Under Scanner
According to official government data, around 6,840 Bangladeshi refugee families are currently residing across five districts of Madhya Pradesh. Among them, Betul district has the largest concentration, with 5,669 families reportedly settled there. Other districts with a significant presence include Panna, Mandsaur, Indore, and Dewas.
Authorities have intensified surveillance in these regions, focusing on identifying fake identity documents and tracking illegal residency networks.
High Alert Ahead of Republic Day
The operation has gained added urgency ahead of Republic Day on January 26, amid concerns over potential security threats. Intelligence agencies have warned of possible risks involving Khalistani and Bangladeshi extremist elements, prompting police to step up statewide checks.
Special teams are conducting door-to-door verifications, monitoring suspicious movements, and scrutinizing identity papers to ensure that no threat to public safety or national security goes undetected.
Officials said the campaign will continue in the coming days, signaling the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal infiltration and forged identities. Further deportations and legal action are expected as investigations progress.
