Patna: Following his arrest in a 32-year-old case, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav’s health reportedly worsened, prompting authorities to shift him from IGIMS to PMCH. Supporters of the MP have alleged a conspiracy against him, while his legal team has raised questions over the procedural aspects of his arrest. His lawyers are expected to file a bail application during his court appearance today.
Shift from IGIMS to PMCH
After a high-voltage drama at his Patna residence late last night, police took Pappu Yadav into custody. Initially admitted to IGIMS, he was transferred to PMCH early this morning. At the time of arrest, the MP reportedly opposed the move, citing both the presence of police in civilian clothes and his fragile health.
On social media, his private secretary claimed that Yadav was kept on a stretcher throughout the night without adequate medical care. “After being on a stretcher all night at IGIMS, the Patna police are now taking Hon’ble MP Pappu Yadav to PMCH Hospital. This is part of a deliberate conspiracy by those in power and administration to harm him for his fight for his daughter’s NEET cause,” his secretary alleged.
Legal Concerns Over Arrest
Yadav’s lawyer, Shivanandan Bharti, has challenged the police action, arguing that the MP had already obtained bail in the 1995 case. He further alleged that after the bail lapsed, notices were deliberately suppressed, and the arrest was made directly under Section 83, bypassing the due process under Section 82. “Reaching directly for attachment and arrest in this manner is legally shocking,” he said.
Court Appearance Today
The MP is scheduled to be presented in court today, where his legal team will file a bail petition. If granted, he could be released; otherwise, he may be sent to jail. Considering his deteriorating health, authorities may also keep him in the hospital ward for detainees instead of a standard jail facility.
