Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: In a significant boost to air connectivity and pilgrimage tourism, the PM-Shri Heli Tourism Service has been launched in Madhya Pradesh under the initiative of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The service aims to provide quick, safe, and convenient travel between major pilgrimage sites, reducing travel time drastically.
Inaugural Journey and Pilgrims’ Experience
The service began operations on 20th November, connecting Indore-Ujjain-Omkareshwar. Pilgrims from Indore took a helicopter ride to Ujjain, where they were welcomed with drums and floral garlands before visiting the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. From Ujjain, they proceeded by helicopter to Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, completing the journey in record time.
Sadhus and Saints Experience Joy Ride
Local saints, including Mahants from Digambar Ani, Juna Akhada, and other prominent religious leaders, experienced the helicopter ride over Ujjain and appreciated this innovative initiative. Mahant Rameshwar Das called it a pioneering and exemplary step, allowing devotees to visit both Jyotirlingas in just 3 hours.
Travel Time and Fare
- Indore to Ujjain: 20 minutes, ₹5,000 per passenger
- Ujjain to Omkareshwar: 40 minutes, ₹6,500 per passenger
The service will operate five days a week, with Wednesdays and Thursdays off.
Significance Ahead of Simhasth 2028
Collector Roshan Kumar Singh highlighted that this service will be a major boon for Simhasth 2028, enabling devotees from across India and abroad to reach pilgrimage sites quickly and comfortably.
Statewide Connectivity
With the launch of the PM-Shri Heli Tourism Service, Madhya Pradesh becomes the first state in India to operate such an inter-city air pilgrimage service, connecting Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur. Bookings can be made through official portals:
