MP Launches Major Drive to Curb Stray Dogs and Cattle, ‘Fortified’ Walls to Protect Schools and Hospitals

Bhopal, MP: In a decisive move to tackle the menace of stray dogs and unattended cattle, the Madhya Pradesh government has issued its strongest directive yet to restore safety on city streets. The Urban Development and Housing Department has unveiled a new SOP aimed at transforming urban spaces and ensuring public safety.

The decision comes in the wake of alarming statistics: during the first six months of 2025, 13,947 people across major cities—including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, and Ratlam—fell victim to dog attacks. The SOP’s primary goal is to make these cities completely rabies-free.

Under the new guidelines, sensitive areas such as schools, colleges, hospitals, and railway stations will be protected with high “fortified” boundary walls. Authorities have emphasized that these “safe zones” must remain entirely free of stray dogs and cattle. Local bodies have been instructed to identify hotspots where incidents are most frequent and take immediate action.

Additionally, stray cattle will be relocated to gaushalas and shelter homes, ensuring both public safety and humane treatment for the animals. Officials have stressed that the campaign will prioritize citizen protection while providing organized shelters for stray animals.

With these measures, Madhya Pradesh aims to eliminate the daily hazards posed by stray animals on its streets and restore order in urban areas.
