Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, approved a series of major policy decisions on Tuesday, including the dissolution of the State Social Welfare Board and financial relief for thousands of displaced families in the Narmada Valley.
In a landmark move, the cabinet announced free registration of residential plots allotted to families displaced by the Sardar Sarovar Project. More than 25,600 affected families will benefit from the decision. The government will bear the burden of stamp duty and registration fees amounting to approximately ₹600 crore through the Narmada Valley Development Authority.
₹15,000 crore approved for labour and welfare schemes
The cabinet also approved over ₹15,000 crore to continue 10 major welfare schemes across six departments for the next five years. Under the Sambal 2.0 scheme, ₹5,000 crore has been allocated for labour welfare. The Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department received ₹6,472 crore for the Kamdhenu and cattle development programmes.
Additionally, ₹3,376 crore has been sanctioned under the MLA Local Area Development Scheme for constituency-level infrastructure projects. Funds were also approved for initiatives related to minority welfare, women’s support programmes, and assistance for victims of domestic violence.
Irrigation boost for Katni and Maihar farmers
The cabinet cleared two major irrigation projects worth ₹620 crore aimed at benefiting farmers in Katni and Maihar districts. The Dhanwahi micro-irrigation project, costing ₹53.73 crore, is expected to help 2,810 farmers. Meanwhile, the Barhi micro-lift irrigation project, with an investment of ₹566.92 crore, will benefit around 11,500 farmers and irrigate nearly 20,000 hectares of land.
Social Welfare Board to be merged
In a decision that drew significant attention, the cabinet approved a proposal to dissolve the Madhya Pradesh State Social Welfare Board. Its employees will be merged into the Women and Child Development Department. The move is seen as part of administrative restructuring amid discussions of appointments in various state boards and corporations.
The cabinet decisions reflect the government’s focus on rehabilitation, labour welfare, rural infrastructure, and administrative streamlining.
