Shimla: Mountaineer Anjali Sharma, from Himachal Pradesh, recently tied the knot with Rwandan civil engineer Yves Kajiyuka. However, instead of widespread celebration, their wedding video on social media has sparked a wave of racist and insensitive comments targeting her husband’s skin color.
Social Media Backlash
The video, shared on Twitter by Nikhil Saini, showcased the couple’s wedding at the Soldier’s Rest House in Dharamshala, highlighting Indian traditions beautifully blended with international customs. Saini praised the union, noting that “love truly knows no borders.”
Unfortunately, some social media users responded with offensive remarks about Yves’s skin color. One comment suggested that girls from Himachal should ideally marry lighter-skinned men, while another crossed the line entirely with deeply inappropriate jokes. Some users even shared derogatory images, mocking the groom.
A Love Story Across Borders
Anjali and Yves first met in Moscow, Russia, in 2023. What began as a friendship soon blossomed into love, culminating in their marriage, celebrated with rich Indian cultural traditions. The ceremony reflected a beautiful fusion of Indian rituals and personal touches from the couple.
Family Background
Anjali, who lost her father in 2009, was raised by her mother, Pushpa Sharma, alongside her sister. Their marriage now marks a new chapter in Anjali’s life, celebrating love that transcends nationality, race, and borders.
