Basti / Siddharthnagar:
Preeti Maurya, a 30-year-old mother of three from Siddharthnagar, was brutally murdered by her lover Dilip Agrahari after she pressured him to marry her. Both Preeti and Dilip were already married. According to police, their illicit relationship had been going on for a long time, and Preeti had recently begun insisting that Dilip leave his wife and marry her. When he refused, she allegedly threatened to send him to jail.
Seeing Preeti as a “threat,” Dilip planned to eliminate her. On the evening of November 19, he called her to meet him in Basti’s Rudhauli area and attacked her with a knife, leaving her dead on the spot before fleeing.
Relationship Began in Siddharthnagar
Preeti lived with her husband, Baboolal Maurya, and their children in Indranagar Ganguli locality of Bansi Nagar Panchayat. On November 19, she left home with her three-year-old son but never returned. The next day, her mutilated body was found in a garden near Lakshmi Devi Kanya Inter College in Rudhauli, Basti. She had deep injuries on her neck, stomach, and face.
Police: Preeti Was Pregnant
During the investigation, police traced the case back to Dilip Agrahari, a resident of Tekghar locality in Siddharthnagar. In police custody, Dilip admitted the affair and revealed shocking details: Preeti was pregnant. To escape responsibilities and pressure for marriage, he lured her to Basti on the pretext that they would elope and start a new life.
Killed in a Secluded Garden
Preeti travelled by bus with her toddler to meet Dilip. They sat in a garden near the inter college for a long time. Dilip consumed country liquor he had brought in a bottle. Intoxicated, he suddenly took out a knife and repeatedly stabbed Preeti. He left the child behind and ran away.
Accused Arrested Through CCTV Footage
Police teams reviewed CCTV footage and identified Dilip. He was arrested on Friday morning from near the Ami River bridge on the Bansi road. The murder has left Preeti’s family shattered, especially after learning she was expecting another child.
