
Chaibasa, Jharkhand: A shocking incident in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district has sent waves of fear across the region. In Kumaradungi police station area, a woman and her young son were allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire by a group of villagers late Tuesday night, under suspicion of witchcraft. The woman’s husband is critically injured and continues to fight for his life in a nearby hospital.
Brutal Attack Sparks Horror
The mother and child died on the spot, while the husband sustained severe burns. The horrifying incident came to light Wednesday when 12 accused individuals voluntarily surrendered at the police station, claiming that the woman was a witch. This brutal act has left the local community in shock and fear.
Twelve Villagers Behind the Attack
Preliminary police reports indicate that around 12 villagers collectively carried out the attack. Rumors had reportedly circulated in the village over recent days, linking illnesses and other misfortunes to the woman and her family, leading to the horrifying accusation of witchcraft.
Late Tuesday night, the accused entered the family’s home, poured petrol, and set it ablaze. The flames trapped the woman and her child inside, preventing their escape. The incident has created a climate of terror in the village, prompting the deployment of additional police forces.
Investigation Underway
Police officials reached the scene to assess the situation and called in a forensic team for further investigation. On Wednesday morning, all 12 accused surrendered at Kumaradungi police station. They are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Cases have been registered under charges including murder, attempted murder, and other serious sections of the law.
