
Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 31: A shocking case of fraud and sexual assault has come to light in Moradabad, where a man allegedly posed as “Ashish” on social media to befriend a Hindu woman and then sexually exploited her. Following the complaint, the accused has been arrested and sent to jail.
According to City SP Kumar Ranvijay Singh, the victim’s mother filed a complaint at Katghar Police Station on Thursday night. A case was registered against the accused, Shahrukh, a resident of Dhanora village in Gajrola, Amroha. Police investigation revealed that Shahrukh had befriended the woman, who lives in the Civil Lines area, via Instagram under a fake profile named “Ashish.”
The accused allegedly arranged a meeting with the victim and during the encounter sexually assaulted her while recording obscene videos. When the woman realized his true identity and resisted his demands, Shahrukh allegedly began blackmailing her and threatened to harm her family and circulate the videos. Multiple instances of sexual assault reportedly followed before the victim revealed the matter.
Police Action:
Following the complaint and public outcry, local authorities, along with community groups, intervened. Shahrukh was arrested from Pitalnagar area on Thursday and handed over to the police. He was produced in court on Friday and subsequently sent to jail. The accused faces charges of rape, blackmail, and intimidation.
Victim’s Statement:
The victim’s mother stated that the acquaintance on Instagram began nearly two years ago. The accused initially befriended her daughter using a fake profile, eventually tricking her and recording explicit content. Once his true identity was discovered, he allegedly pressured and threatened the victim to comply with his demands.
City ACP Kunwar Ranvijay Singh confirmed that the accused has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
