A disturbing and complex case has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district, raising serious questions over whether a woman was molested or sexually assaulted, and whether there was a deliberate attempt to suppress the gravity of the crime. The alleged victim has accused her elder sister of conspiring to dilute the case by registering a molestation complaint instead of rape.
The incident has been reported from the Badausa police station area, where the woman has come forward with a video statement claiming that she was sexually assaulted while staying at her elder sister’s in-laws’ house. She alleged that when she attempted to speak out, pressure was mounted on her to remain silent and a compromise with the accused was pushed to hush up the matter.
Victim Alleges Serious Crime, Questions FIR
The woman, a native of a district in Madhya Pradesh, stated that she was living temporarily at her elder sister’s matrimonial home in Banda when the alleged incident took place. According to her, the offence was far more serious than what has been recorded in the First Information Report (FIR).
She claims that instead of allowing her to lodge a complaint herself, her elder sister intentionally filed a complaint of molestation to conceal the alleged rape and prevent stricter legal action against the accused.
Case Registered on Sister’s Complaint
Based on the written complaint submitted by the elder sister, police registered a case stating that on December 19 at around 6:30 pm, the accused—identified as Anju alias Irfan, son of Rasool Baksh, resident of Udkhi Ka Purwa, Ansh Bhusasi—allegedly misbehaved with the woman while she was heading towards fields to relieve herself. The complaint further alleged verbal abuse and the use of caste-based slurs when the woman resisted.
Police Assure Fair Probe
Confirming the registration of the case, Badausa Station House Officer Ajit Pratap Singh said that FIR No. 0213/2025 has been lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 3(1)(d) and 3(1)(w)(i) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Given the seriousness of the allegations and the conflicting claims, the investigation has been handed over to Atarra Deputy Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar.
Police officials stated that the victim’s statement, the viral video, medical evidence, and other material facts will be examined thoroughly. “Strict and impartial action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” officials said.
The case has sparked concern locally and underscores the need for sensitive handling of sexual offence complaints to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied.
