Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh: A theft at the Hit Dham Guest House in Vrindavan has raised serious questions about the safety of pilgrims visiting the holy town. Tourists from Rajasthan and Gujarat reported the loss of mobile phones, cash, and other valuables from their rooms, yet an official FIR has still not been registered, sparking criticism of police inaction and the guest house management’s negligence.
The Incident
The theft occurred around 2 a.m. on the night of January 22, 2026. A family from Jaipur staying in Room 103 reported five mobile phones stolen, while a Gujarati family on the ground floor lost an iPhone, AirPods, cash, and other valuables after the thief entered through a sliding window. CCTV footage reportedly shows the suspect clearly, raising suspicions of inside collusion, as the thief seemed to have detailed knowledge of the guest house layout.
Delayed Police Response
The victims contacted the local police helpline (100) around 3:30 a.m. Three officers arrived at the scene but cited crowd control duties at Premanand Ji’s exit route and left shortly after, instructing the families to file a complaint at the local police station. Guest house staff also delayed assisting in lodging the formal complaint until 6 a.m. Eventually, a sub-inspector arrived around 9 a.m. to collect CCTV footage and other evidence, but an FIR was still not filed.
Pressure but No Action
After repeated demands, the police did accept a written complaint (Parivad), but no immediate action was taken despite available evidence. The affected families allege negligence on the part of both the guest house staff and the police, urging a thorough investigation into possible internal collusion. They also called for enhanced security measures for pilgrims visiting Vrindavan.
Valuables Stolen
The Gujarati family reported losing an iPhone 11 Pro, AirPods, iPhone charger, an Oppo mobile phone, and a wallet containing Rs 5–6,000. The Jaipur family’s loss included multiple mobile phones. The incident has raised pressing concerns about the safety and security of visitors to the holy city.
